The small Queensland community of Upper Brookfield has been left reeling after the deaths of a man and a woman in a caravan fire early on Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to a rural property on Galvin Road about 4:15am, where they found the caravan "well alight".
The bodies of 26-year-old Jane Strong and 22-year-old Eli Johnson were found inside the destroyed caravan.
Ms Strong's partner Carl Weiss suffered burns that police said were "consistent to trying to escape the fire or potentially alert people to the fire".
Police remained at the scene of the fire on Sunday, and investigators spoke to Mr Weiss in hospital.
Gladstone Regional Council Mayor Matt Burnett said the twin towns of Rosedale and Lowmead, the hometowns of the victims, were devastated by the tragedy.
"They're about 25 kilometres apart, very small communities," he said.
"There's no doubt in my mind the community will rally behind the families involved in this terrible, terrible fire."
Brookfield Show Society president Dan Petrie told the ABC on Sunday that the community had a "difficult day" as news of the fatal fire broke.
"It was obviously a big shock to wake up to," he said.
"The community is, by its nature, quite tight-knit."
Upper Brookfield resident Alice Orr said she heard fire engine sirens in the area early Saturday morning.
"Everyone's quite saddened by it all … you could tell, around the community it was just a lot more quiet," she said.
"It's crazy to think it happened so quickly overnight and they're just gone."
