A community is in shock following the tragic death of a child in Laois.
The young girl died at Portlaoise General Hospital on Thursday afternoon following an incident near Emo village.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 4pm and the child was rushed to hospital.

Gardai confirmed that the child died in hospital a short time later.
A Garda investigation is underway, with officers treating the death as a “personal tragedy”.
A spokesperson told the Irish Mirror that foul play is not currently suspected.
They said: “Gardai are investigating the death of a female child at Portlaoise General Hospital yesterday afternoon, 24th March, 2022.
“A post mortem will take place in due course.
“This death is being treated as a personal tragedy. Foul play is not currently suspected.”
