Community groups hailed for their work with kids in and around Wishaw

Two community groups have been hailed for their work with youngsters in and around Wishaw.

Socialtrack and Made4UinML2 were congratulated for the work their volunteers have been doing with kids at the Wishawhill Wood pump track as well as its work in several local schools.

Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson was on hand to present the award after she submitted a parliamentary motion at Holyrood congratulating the teams.

She told Lanarkshire Live : “I was delighted to recognise the work of Socialtrack and Made4UinML2 in my parliamentary motion.

“Both of these organisations are committed to teaching young people resilience and new skills.

“And new skills were certainly on display at the pump track on Friday!”

The Socialtrack team’s acknowledgement comes just six months after they were left counting the cost following the theft of £30,000 worth of bikes from their Wishaw’s warehouse.

Dan Scott, from Socialtrack, told us : “The event on Friday was excellent.

"We had our 360 club on along with the Made4U inML2 team.

“Clare had put a motion through the Scottish Parliament thanking us for the work we do at Craigneuk at Wishawhill and we were happy to have her down to give us a copy of the motion to congratulate us.

“It was all really good. Everyone had a very good time.

“It’s nice to be acknowledged especially after the break-in. It’s nice to get a bit of positivity.

“I’m proud of the staff and volunteers and it wouldn’t happen without all of our team and those being part.

“We’ve managed to get some more funding so we are very busy. It’s stressful but it’s a good stressful.

“We’re in 11 schools just now along with five community groups.”
