Athletes have descended upon Birmingham for the XXII Commonwealth Games ahead of an action-packed 10 days. This marks England's third time hosting the prestigious event after London 1934 and Manchester 2002, and it is the seventh Games to take place in the United Kingdom.
Over 5,000 athletes from 72 countries or territories will compete for a total of 1,875 medals across 20 different sports. While we are accustomed to seeing Team GB at the Olympics, World and European championships, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern will each represent themselves at the Commonwealth Games.
A number of athletes from across the UK such as swimming star Adam Peaty, iconic cyclist Laura Trott and World Champion 1500m runner Jake Wightman will be hoping to make their mark on the latest edition of the Games.
