The Commonwealth Bank of Australia has revealed a massive change in how its users withdraw cash, with customers soon receiving a cheeky charge to get their cash taken out with the help of staff.
In an announcement on Tuesday, Australia’s largest bank shared that it would be moving all customers who use “Complete Access” accounts to “Smart Access” accounts, which would allow them to use services like BPAY, Apple Pay, and other app features.
“As part of our commitment to provide the best available banking experiences, we’ve reviewed our everyday accounts offering and will be replacing Complete Access with our newer transaction account, Smart Access,” read a statement from CommBank to customers.
However, with the change also came the announcement that from January 6 next year all Commbank customers who withdraw cash at staff-assisted locations will cop a $3 charge for doing so.
The fee will be applied regardless of if the customer is withdrawing money from a Commonwealth Bank branch, over the phone, or at a post office.
Before this change, customers had been able to withdraw cash at staff-assisted locations for no additional charge.
The bank clarified that customers looking to avoid the fee could continue to withdraw money from Commbank ATMs.
The change comes after the two of the other big four banks have also had the charge in place for some time.
NAB customers cop the same $3 charge for staff-assisted withdrawals. Meanwhile, ANZ charges its users between 80 cents and $2.50 for the transactions.
