The Committee of Officers constituted by the Andhra Pradesh Government to scout for a place for housing the Chief Minister’s camp office in Visakhapatnam has identified the newly-constructed resort buildings of the A.P. Tourism Department atop Rushikonda as suitable .
The committee had informed the same in its recent report to the State government.
The government had constituted the committee on October 11, 2023, through G.O. Rt. No. 2015 to identify suitable transit accommodation for setting up the Camp Office of the Chief Minister and accommodation for supporting senior functionaries, including Special Chief Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, Special Chief Secretary of Finance Department, and Secretary to Government (Services and HRM), General Administration Department.
“The resort buildings are the first and best option, while the second choice is the buildings of the Tribal Research Institute, which are also located at Rushikonda,” the committee said.
The other structures identified were the buildings at IT Hills, the Platinum Jubilee Halls of Andhra University, the VMRDA office, the VMRDA shopping complex, and the Millennium Towers.
The committee considered the importance of the Chief Minister’s Camp Office, the frequent meetings of senior officials, the residential facilities for officers and security personnel and many other administrative issues.
The committee observed that except for the Tourism Department’s resort and the Tribal Research Institution structure, all the other places were located in the heart of the city and in congested areas. The committee said that if the government chooses the buildings in the city, the residents would face traffic problems.
The first two choices would pose lesser security threat, the committee said. This apart, a helipad constructed by the previous government was available in the vicinity of Rushikonda, which would be helpful for the Chief Minister and other VVIPs visiting the city, the committee observed.
