Commanders WR Terry McLaurin wants to be a part of the solution

The Washington Commanders are lucky to have wide receiver Terry McLaurin. It feels like that’s been said a time or two over the years.

Regardless of how many quarterbacks he’s played with, McLaurin produces and remains a professional and a team leader. While many top receivers are known for being a “diva” and putting their statistics over team goals, McLaurin is the antithesis.

McLaurin has long spoken about wanting to be here when the Commanders finally turn the corner and become the consistent winner he believes the fans deserve.

This season has been another difficult one for McLaurin. His stats are somewhat down across the board, yet Washington’s overall offense looks better than it has in a few years. The Commanders also have a talented young quarterback in Sam Howell. But Washington remains a flawed — and losing — team.

After Sunday’s game, McLaurin reflected on the loss and the bigger picture.

“Yeah, everybody wants to win at the end of the day,” McLaurin said. “Everybody knows how extremely competitive I am, as a leader, as a player. I am not the type to point the fingers, but at the same time, each guy has to figure out how he can affect this team in a positive way to help us win. If you are not, then this is probably not the place for you. But at the same time, I am going to continue to work and be ready for my opportunity; sometimes, I don’t necessarily know they’re going to come. I just try to stay ready and be positive and try to be part of the solution.”

McLaurin was frustrated but, as always, showed composure and said all of the right things. If anyone should be frustrated, it is McLaurin. He’s not receiving nearly enough opportunities to help the offense. Some of that is on Howell, some is on offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, and McLaurin would tell you, some is on him.

Regardless of what happens for the remainder of this season, the Commanders know McLaurin is the perfect guy to lead the franchise into the next regime.
