The Washington Commanders had an opportunity to improve to 3-2 on Thursday Night Football and have a few extra days off before beginning preparations for a Week 6 trip to Atlanta to face the Falcons.
All Washington had to do was get by the 0-4 Chicago Bears and losers of 14 consecutive games.
Buy Commanders TicketsThe Commanders didn’t show up until the third quarter, and by that point, they were down 27-3. While Washington mounted a comeback, it wasn’t enough, and the Bears won their first game in almost a full calendar year, 40-20.
Here are the following snap counts for every Washington player from Thursday night.
Tell us which one stands out.
Offense
Nothing on offense stands out. Quarterback Sam Howell and all five of the offensive linemen played every snap. Terry McLaurin led the wide receivers in snaps, with Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel right behind him. Dyami Brown, Byron Pringle and Jamison Crowder all played.
At running back, Antonio Gibson played 13 more snaps than Brian Robinson Jr. In this instance, it was likely due to the game’s situation, as the Commanders were behind three scores, and Gibson is more effective in the passing game.
Defense
It was much of the same for the Commanders, with Cody Barton, Benjamin St-Juste, Kendall Fuller and Kamren Curl playing 100% of the defensive snaps. At this point, we aren’t sure how Barton is playing this much. What are the coaches seeing that everyone else doesn’t see? Fellow linebacker Jamin Davis played 51 snaps. Khaleke Hudson continues to play only on special teams.
Chase Young played 89% of Washington’s defensive snaps, and he was the best player on defense from Thursday. I am not sure it was close. At defensive tackle, Daron Payne sat for only six snaps, while Jonathan Allen missed seven snaps.
