Commanders Trading DE Montez Sweat to Bears for Draft Capital, per Source

The Commanders are trading defensive end Montez Sweat to the Bears for a second-round draft pick, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news, adding that the draft pick is in 2024. Sweat is in the last year of his current contract.

If the season were to end today, the draft pick would be No. 35 with Chicago currently sitting at the bottom of the NFC North with a 2–6 record.

Sweat, 27, was drafted by Washington with the No. 26 pick out of Mississippi State back in the 2019 NFL draft. He has started in every game he has played professionally, tallying a total of 35.5 sacks and 197 combined tackles in 67 appearances. Through eight games this year, Sweat has 6.5 sacks and 32 total tackles.

The Bears are projected to have the most cap space in the NFL this offseason at over $110 million, according to Schefter, making them likely to re-sign the young pass rusher.
