Commanders to host Alabama wide receiver for top 30 visit

The Washington Commanders are clearly in the wide receiver market for the upcoming 2022 NFL draft. Washington recently sent a heavy contingent to Ohio State’s pro day, including head coach Ron Rivera. The Buckeyes have two wide receivers in Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, who will be first-round selections.

Rivera was seen speaking to Olave, and the Commanders will use one of their top 30 visits on the former Buckeye. Olave is a former teammate of current Washington star wideout Terry McLaurin, and the two remain close.

Washington isn’t done bringing in wide receivers for top 30 visits. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported Tuesday that the Commanders would host Alabama wide receiver John Metchie in Ashburn Friday.

Metchie, at 5-foot-11, 187 pounds, isn’t expected to go in the first round. However, he will go sometime on day two, meaning no later than the third round. Had Metchie not torn his ACL late in the season, he could be in the first-round discussion.

Metchie had a big year for the Crimson Tide in 2021, catching a career-high 96 passes for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns. He assumed a more prominent role in 2021 with DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle off to the NFL.
