Commanders sign nine players to Reserve/Future contracts

It’s that time of year again, so today the Commanders announced several signings of players to Reserve/Future contracts.

RB Kazmeir Allen, DT Viliami Fehoko Jr., G Julian Good-Jones, QB Sam Hartman, TE Tyree Jackson, DE Andre Jones Jr., WR Chris Moore, S Ben Nikkel, and TE Cole Turner were the players signed to these contracts.

Interestingly, I found some on X (Twitter) this afternoon complaining. Why are some on X speaking out against some of these signings? Why are some saying they are not impressed with these signings?

Frankly, because they don’t understand what Reserve/Future contracts are. They don’t understand this is an annual exercise by every NFL team once their season concludes.

Some fans in each fan base will have something negative to say regarding these signings because they don’t truly comprehend that these contracts are given to only players who are currently not on a 53-man roster. So, of course, teams are not signing players you covet for your team. That will come later during the free agency signing period in March.

The nature of the Reserve/Future contracts is to build your roster toward having the NFL’s maximum of 90 players permitted to attend training camps in July. These contracts then prevent the players from negotiating and signing with another team while providing assurance to the players that they can’t be plucked away by other clubs while on an off-season roster, having signed this Reserve/Future contract.
