Commanders rule out 5, including Marshon Lattimore for Week 17 vs. Falcons

The Washington Commanders (10-5) will be shorthanded on Sunday when they host the Atlanta Falcons (8-7). On Friday, Washington ruled out five players, including cornerback Marshon Lattimore, for Sunday’s NFC showdown.

Here are the five players Washington ruled out:

  • CB Marshon Lattimore (hamstring)
  • RT Andrew Wylie (groin)
  • WR Dyami Brown (hamstring)
  • LB Jordan Magee (hamstring)
  • S Tyler Owens (ankle)

Of the five, only two are starters — Lattimore and Wylie — but Brown is a significant part of the offense, and his role has recently increased. He injured his hamstring in last week’s win over the Eagles after making a 51-yard catch. Brown has caught 11 passes on 14 targets in the previous three games.

Wylie injured his groin last week, but Cornelius Lucas is a capable replacement. Lucas has appeared in 13 games this season, with six starts. He’s played left and right tackle this season.

Magee and Owens, both rookies, contribute primarily on special teams, with Owens quickly becoming one of Washington’s best special-teamers this season.

Finally, there is Lattimore. The Commanders traded for him at the NFL trade deadline, and he missed the first four games after the trade. Lattimore was dealing with a preexisting hamstring injury during the trade.

Head coach Dan Quinn said Lattimore reaggravated the previous hamstring injury. If Washington clinches a playoff berth on Sunday, it’s doubtful Lattimore could play in the regular-season finale at Dallas, whether he’s healthy or not.

Quinn also said Benjamin St-Juste and Michael Davis would work in Lattimore’s spot. St-Juste, the former starter, has struggled in limited appearances over the last two games.

In some good news, defensive tackle Jonathan Allen is questionable, but signs indicate his return from a partially torn pec.
