Commanders rookie RB Brian Robinson Jr. back at practice

Only two and half weeks after he was shot in an attempted carjacking, Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. returned to practice Wednesday.

No, Robinson wasn’t on the field with his teammates, but he did ride the stationary bike and went through some agility drills before moving to a side field and working with a trainer.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera was happy to see Robinson back.

“It was good to see him out there,” Rivera said. “He is progressing very well.”

Robinson was placed on the non-football injury list ahead of the season and will miss at least the first four games. Robinson could return in Week 5 when the Commanders face the Titans.

In Week 1, Antonio Gibson handled running back duties, rushing for 58 yards and catching seven passes for 72 yards.

It was an encouraging sign for the Commanders to have Robinson back on the field so soon. The 2022 third-round pick could give Washington one of the NFL’s best backfield with Gibson and J.D. McKissic when he returns.
