Commanders’ owner Josh Harris has ‘taken part’ in QB interviews at 2024 NFL combine

In his first NFL combine as owner of the Washington Commanders, Josh Harris is sitting in the team’s formal interviews of the top quarterback prospects, according to Adam Schefter.

Schefter explained the uniqueness of Harris’ presence in the meetings.

Most owners don’t attend the combine; Harris is not only in Indianapolis, but a part of the quarterback interview process.

The Commanders hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft and need a quarterback. The Chicago Bears are expected to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall, leaving Washington to choose between LSU’s Jayden Daniels and North Carolina’s Drake Maye.

Washington had formal meetings on Wednesday with each of the top three prospects. The Commanders also met with J.J. McCarthy (Michigan), Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) and Bo Nix (Oregon).

What do we make of Harris attending the combine and sitting on the QB meetings?

This is much ado about nothing. Do I get why fans are scratching their heads? Sure. After all, the Washington fan base just suffered through over 20 years of Dan Snyder’s ownership. Harris is an experienced sports owner — and a successful one.

The Commanders are in a unique position. Washington holds the No. 2 pick, needs a quarterback, have a completely new regime, including the owner, so selecting the right quarterback is imperative. Harris likely just wants to see how the process is in the NFL, and he wants to see the intangibles of each of the quarterbacks. He wants to see their personalities, how they answer questions, etc.

Whichever quarterback the Commanders select will be the face of the franchise. That’s a lot of pressure.

Everyone should relax.
