Commanders officially eliminated Cowboys from playoffs with win over Eagles

What a weekend for the Washington Commanders. First, there was the surprise early Saturday morning that the United States Senate approved the legislation to grant Washington, D.C., control over the RFK Stadium land, potentially allowing the Commanders to build their new stadium in the District.

Then, on Sunday, the Commanders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 36-33, snapping their 10-game winning streak and preventing them from clinching the NFC East. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels was phenomenal again, completing 25 of 39 passes for 258 yards with five touchdowns, two interceptions, and a team-leading 81 rushing yards.

It was Washington’s third consecutive win, and at 10-5, the team moved one step closer to clinching a spot in the NFC playoff field.

If the RFK Stadium legislation and ending the Eagles’ winning streak were not enough, this graphic from ESPN was released shortly after Washington’s win over Philadelphia.

That’s a dream weekend for Washington fans. Dallas hadn’t even taken the field for Week 16 before being eliminated. The Cowboys would defeat the Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football, but it was too little, too late.

The Commanders host the Falcons next week in a game with playoff implications before finishing the season at Dallas.
