Washington started the game on offense but quickly went three-and-out. However, on Houston’s second play from scrimmage, Commanders cornerback Kendall Fuller intercepted Texans quarterback Davis Mills and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown.

Washington’s offense finally began moving the ball with one drive ending with a Curtis Samuel 10-yard touchdown run. The Commanders had two more offensive possessions inside the 10-yard line, ending in field goals.

Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke completed 12 of 22 passes for 164 yards, completing passes to five different receivers. Terry McLaurin has four receptions for 55 yards, while tight end Logan Thomas is having his best performance of the season thus far, catching four passes for 57 yards. Thomas finally looks healthy after returning from ACL surgery.

Washington’s running game started slowly but picked up in the second quarter. Antonio Gibson led the Commanders with 38 yards on nine attempts, while Brian Robinson Jr. carried the football five times for 24 yards. Samuel has two carries for 18 yards and the score.

Washington’s defense held the Texans to five total yards in the first half — the lowest number of total yards in a half this season. The Commanders have three first-half sacks.

The Texans will begin the second half with the football.
