The Washington Commanders have three big needs heading into the 2023 NFL offseason. Washington could use multiple players on the offensive line, a cornerback and, of course, a quarterback.
Yesterday, we discussed the possibility of the Commanders needing help at tight end. With Logan Thomas, John Bates, Cole Turner and Armani Rogers on the roster, there’s a good mix of talent and experience but no game-changer.
In the 33rd Team’s latest mock draft, which features a trade of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, Washington adds a tight end in the first round.
The pick isn’t Michael Mayer of Notre Dame or Luke Musgrave of Oregon State. Instead, Washington lands Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid at No. 16 overall.
Washington needs some size in its passing game. With Logan Thomas potentially a cut candidate, Kincaid gives the Commanders a size and speed combo their offense is lacking.
The thought process isn’t wrong. But there’s no way the Commanders go tight end in the first round. There’s a good possibility Washington targets a tight end in the second or third round, but the first-round pick should be an offensive lineman or cornerback.
Kincaid is an excellent prospect, but the Commanders need to fix the offensive line before adding another weapon in the passing game.
