Commanders’ Kliff Kingsbury a targeted coaching candidate in 2025

The Washington Commanders season has been an exercise in patience, surprise, frustration, and elation, not necessarily in that order. Head coach Dan Quinn and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury have gotten this offense to not only put points on the board but enough points to win games. This is good since the defense could use some love during the offseason.

However, as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler indicates, Kingsbury has done so well at his job that he might be targeted for head coaching vacancies. During a conversation with Dan Graziano, Fowler was asked about Kingsbury going to Chicago because of his relationship with Caleb Williams at USC.

I expect Kingsbury to interview there. As was told to me, most or all the names that have been linked to the Bears are people Chicago would like to interview. Observers believe experience will be a key factor in the hiring process, and Kingsbury has experience coupled with quarterback cachet.

Kingsbury has done an excellent job with the Commanders’ offense this year and is likely to be targeted by other teams as well. Fowler mentions the New York Jets as another potential landing spot.

But they didn’t discuss whether Kingsbury wanted to leave Washington in the first place. This team has been very successful, and there has been no indication that Kingsbury wants to leave. We’ll see how this plays out after the season ends.
