Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. was off to the best start of his three-year NFL career through the first five weeks. Robinson rushed for 325 yards, averaged 4.5 yards per attempt and scored five touchdowns.
Unfortunately, Robinson suffered a knee injury a few weeks ago and missed last week’s loss at Baltimore. This week, Robinson was back at practice, but on a limited basis.
Will he play in Sunday’s Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers?
The Commanders listed Robinson as questionable on the final injury report and head coach Dan Quinn seemed positive about his status for Sunday.
“Yeah, Brian had a good week and so everything’s trending up,” Quinn said. “We’ll take him through tomorrow and into the game and see what it looks like. But it was a hard miss last week, and so it’s good to see him trending in the right spots and we’ll see him make sure recoveries and all the stuff into tomorrow and into the game.”
Remember, the Commanders ruled Robinson out on Saturday, one day before their game in Baltimore. However, he seemed more optimistic about Robinson’s chances this week.
What did Washington miss with Robinson?
“I think he helps shape part of our identity, honestly,” Quinn said. “And sometimes the closer on these short yardage and goal line runs, that’s really where sometimes you feel Brian’s energy and toughness come to life. Sometimes his two-yard run is as good as the 22-yard run. And those are some things that he provides with us.”
Carolina has one of the NFL’s worst run defenses, so while it would make sense on paper to give Robinson another week to get healthy, he will play if he’s 100% — and he should.
