When being drafted by the Panthers in 2017 he was assigned the No. 10 jersey and so in his four seasons in Carolina, Samuel averaged 11.3 yards per reception on his 185 receptions. He also carried the ball 72 times averaging 6.6 yards per rushing attempt.
When he signed a free-agent contract with Washington in the 2021 offseason, he again ended up with the jersey No. 10.
Some may recall a certain quarterback who had just come on the scene and had a surprisingly good game against the Tampa Bay Bucs in the 2020 playoffs. Well, that quarterback was already wearing the No. 4 jersey. That quarterback, of course, was Taylor Heinicke.
Heinicke, in this 2023 offseason, departed, signing a free-agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons, again opening up jersey No. 4 for Samuel. Samuel wore the No. 4 jersey as an Ohio State Buckeye and so is looking forward again to scoring a big touchdown wearing his old college number.
