Commanders and Chiefs’ OC Eric Bieniemy have ‘mutual interest’ on deal

There is a mutual interest between the Washington Commanders and longtime Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy that would land the prized coach in America’s capitol next season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Though the move is reported to be a lateral one for Bieniemy, it could open the door for a potential head coaching opportunity later in the year depending on the disposition of current commanders head coach Ron Rivera’s performance through the early part of the Commanders’ 2023 schedule.

This move would be a huge development for Washington, which is looking to return to its former glory after decades of mediocrity. Indications are that owner Dan Snyder could look to sell the franchise at some point in the offseason, and after a successful rebrand in 2022, it seems that the time to finalize the monumental changes that Commanders fans have yearned for is now.

Fresh off a Super Bowl LVII victory with Kansas City, Bieniemy would join a Washington team that went 8-8-1 in 2022. With his help, the Commanders would hope to get back into playoff contention and shore up their offense, which is equipped with talented players but has lacked a sense of urgency and execution in recent seasons.
