Commanders’ 2023 schedule is 8th-hardest based on opponent record in 2022

The Washington Commanders finished last in the NFC East in 2022. It wasn’t your typical last place in the NFC East finish, though. The Commanders finished 8-8-1 and were in the playoff hunt until Week 18. The NFC East was the best division in the NFL.

Now that the 2022 regular season is in the books, we can begin looking ahead to 2023.

How does Washington’s schedule look in 2023? The Commanders will play their NFC East rivals, the AFC East, the NFC West, the other last-place NFC teams [Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons], and the Denver Broncos for the 17th game.

Going by Washington’s opponents’ records in 2022, the Commanders would have the 8th-most difficult schedule in 2023.

As we learn every year, early schedule rankings are just that. Every NFL team will look different in 2023, including the Commanders. Some teams that are expected to be flawed will be better. Meanwhile, some playoff teams will struggle out of the gate.

There is expected to be more quarterback movement this offseason. Names like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, and Jimmy Garoppolo are some of the names who could be on the move. We know Carr and Garoppolo will be on new teams in 2023. Where these players land will not only shape the outlook of their new teams but their former teams, too — if they move.

You can never count the Commanders out of the veteran quarterback market, either.
