Comic claims he wrote Will Smith and Chris Rock smack saga and is 'proud' of response

Comedian Kevin T Porter says Will Smith's Chris Rock slap was staged after he seemingly joked that he was behind it all.

But fans have cast doubt over the American funnyman's claim that he planned the incredible Oscars moment that has got the whole world talking.

While presenting for the best documentary feature category, Chris decided to throw a dig about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head.

He said, looking at the pair sitting by the stage: "Jada... can't wait for GI Jane 2."

Will seemed to smile along at first and Jada rolled her eyes at the joke - but the actor then stormed the stage and slapped the presenter before returning to his seat.

From his seat, the Fresh Prince star screamed out "Keep my wife's name out of your f****** mouth."

Now a comedian has claimed it was he who put them up to it but few are convinced it was a set-up.

Popular podcaster Kevin tweeted: "Hey I wrote that silly chris rock will smith slap bit. we knew we’d push some buttons but comedy is meant to provoke and make people think, i’m proud we did both those things tonight at #Oscars2022!"

But his followers weren't buying it.

One told him: "The awkward way Chris tried to continue after the confrontation tells me that this was real."

Another barked: "The only thing less funny than if you had written it: pretending that you did."

A third put: "You don’t think anyones going to believe this.. right?"

Will went on to win his first Oscar for his performance in King Richard and apologised on stage for his actions.

While on stage accepting his award, he said: "I want to apologise to the Academy, I want to apologise to all my fellow nominees."

The star was tearful as he made his speech for what was his first-ever Oscars win.

He continued: "This is a beautiful moment and I'm not crying for winning an award, it's not about winning an award for me, it's about being able to shine a light on all of the people.

"Art imitates life, I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams, but love will make you do crazy things."

After paying a beautiful tribute to his mother and other members of his family he added: "Thank you for this honour, thank you for this moment...I hope the Academy invites me back."
