Comic Relief: Kylie Minogue pulls out of Red Nose Day TV show due to Covid

Singing sensation Kylie Minogue has become the latest celebrity to pull out of the Comic Relief live TV show just one day before the fundraising event airs. She announced to her 2.1 million fans on Twitter she has been recovering from Covid-19.

The pop star was supposed to be appearing on BBC One's The Great Comic Relief Prizeathon on Friday, March 18 from 7pm, where she was going to star in a one-off sketch with the cast of the BBC sitcom Ghosts - which stars Charlotte Richie, Matthew Baynton, Lolly Adefope and more.

But Kylie posted on her Twitter on Thursday, March 17 to tell fans she was "so sorry" to not be able to take part but said she will be tuning in from home. Comic Relief retweeted Kylie's post to share with their 239k followers ahead of tomorrow night's TV fundraiser.

In a post to her fans, the Australian singer wrote: "So sorry to miss my planned visit to #BBCGhosts Button House for #ComicRelief2022 as I’ve been recovering from Covid. I WILL, however, be watching @BBCOne 7pm Friday to see what fun @comicrelief has in store for us! Don’t forget to tune in & support the incredible work they do!"

The 53-year-old singer has since received an abundance of get well soon messages from fans who wish her a speedy recovery.

She follows comedian Joel Dommett, who announced on Wednesday, March 16 that he would no longer be able to host as previously planned alongside 2021 Strictly contestant AJ Odudu, as he had also tested positive for Covid-19. TV and radio presenter Vernon Kay has agreed to step in as his replacement.

Joel took to Instagram to break the news posting: "Super annoyed to report that I have the vid. This unfortunately means I have to pull out of hosting @comicrelief... My incredible replacement is the better looking, more talented @vernonkay who is ace. I'll be watching from home donating loads of money like everyone else!"

The Great Comic Relief Prizeathon airs live on BBC One on Friday, March 18 from 7pm.
