Comedian's quip at 'mad' Leeds after witnessing Saturday night 'carnage'

It's safe to say comedian Mark Watson was taken aback on his route back to his hotel in Leeds city centre last night.

The stand-up performed at Pocklington Arts Centre but stayed in Leeds, meaning he walked back through the city centre on a Saturday night.

The QI regular and former Mock the Week and Taskmaster star took to Twitter to share his surprise at what he saw.

He wrote: "Leeds remains one of the maddest Saturday night cities.

"You know you won’t get back to the hotel without seeing someone bleeding, someone pissing and someone weeping, as a minimum."

Fans were quick to reply with their own eye-opening experiences from a Leeds night out.

Kerry Robinson shared: "I was also in Leeds city centre this evening. Absolute carnage. Sad thing is, about 10 years ago I was part of that carnage."

Alex Green said: "I always remember walking through Leeds and hearing two girls behind me discussing fighting in the street. One was basically explaining the merits to the other.

"It was an eye-opener for me having lived in rural north Norfolk most of my life."

Niall Machin added: "First time I ever went to Leeds was the first time I ever saw women fighting in a pub - with a watching crowd."
