Former Bristol University student, Marcus Brigstocke, is the frontman for a new anti-cigarette litter video being showcased across our city today. In the footage, he slams smokers who throw their butts on the floor as being selfish and stupid.
A huge screen mounted on a van will drive through Bristol city centre showing the video today (April 21). The five-metre wide screen will be driven to Lloyds Amphitheatre from 10am, and will show a video made by national anti-litter and fly-tipping organisation Clean Up Britain.
In the film, Marcus also says it costs locals hundreds of thousands of pounds annually to clean the butts off their streets. He also reveals that anyone caught throwing their butts on the floor be handed a £2,500 fine and even sent to prison.

A spokesperson for' Get Your Butt Off Our Streets’ said: "The short humorous video features the comedian walking around the picturesque streets of Bristol sharing key facts about the city, including shocking stats on littering in Bristol, the damage cigarette butts have on the area and that it costs Bristolians hundreds of thousands of pounds a year in council tax to clear them up."
Clean Up Britain launched a campaign in January this year to stop people from leaving their cigarette butts on the street. The campaign has also seen anti-litter bus-stop adverts placed around the city.
John Read, founder of Clean Up Britain, said: “Cigarette butts blight the streets of Bristol, and we’re committed to our goal of a cleaner Britain. We’ve gone to and will continue to go to great lengths to stay true to that goal.
And he added: "This campaign is nothing but a positive one, designed to make Bristol an even better place for people to live in, and reduce tobacco pollution.” You can watch the video by clicking here.
