Jason Manford has proved what a nice and generous guy he is by treating a random fan to a night out to the theatre in London with him.
The comedian, 42, revealed on Twitter he had been let down at the last minute to go and watch the new West End play Brokeback Mountain, based on Annie Proulx’s short story – but he was still determined to go and didn't want the ticket to go to waste.
Appealing to his 455,800 followers, Jason asked if anyone fancied coming to see the show with him for free, joking they had to bring the refreshments in exchange for the free seat.
He wrote: “Right, random, but I’ve been let down so is anyone in central London right now and want to come and see Brokeback Mountain the musical tonight! I have an extra ticket. Soho Place theatre, 7.30! No weirdos, you buy the snacks!”
The dad-of-six was quickly inundated with offers to see the show, which has been tweaked to include music, but one fan stuck out as she said she could be at the venue in 18 minutes to meet him.
Hannah Fox was the lucky fan to cinch the spare ticket as she dashed to the theatre and Jason to watch the play.
Fans were thrilled with the turn of events and flooded his Twitter with their approval.
One person wrote: “You are a f**king legend.”
“This is cool AF! Please let us know. Hope you both have a great time,” added another user.
While someone else penned: “This is just fab! Glad to read you both enjoyed yourselves.”
Jason replied to one person writing, “I just couldn’t stand for the performers to look out and see an empty seat and also hate wasting money!”
Following the random outing, Hannah took to Twitter to prove it had all happened and to reflect on her evening as she posted a photo of herself posing alongside the comedian at the theatre.
She wrote: “Well, what a bizarre but brilliant evening. One of the many reasons I love living in London - you always can be 18 minutes away from a wonderful story to tell! Say yes to great opportunities and see what happens. thanks @JasonManford. Top guy.”
Jason, who is celebrating his birthday today also shared a couple of snaps of himself and his 'random friend' Hannah.
He wrote: “What a wonderful play! Loved it. If you get chance to see @brokebackplay at @sohoplacelondon then do. Thanks to my random friend for the night @hannahrosefox for making sure I wasn’t sat by myself & to @eddireader for just being a goddess as always. Go see it. Beautiful.”
Jason’s followers were delighted to see he and Hannah had enjoyed their evening together, with one citing that their faith in humanity had been restored thanks to the act of generosity.
Another person added: “What a lovely gesture so glad you had a great evening. Xxx slightly gutted I was not in London last night hehe xx”.
“This is just as wholesome as this wonderful play deserves saw it opening week and weeped!!!!,” wrote someone else.
While a third penned: “Literally came to see if Hannah made it! This is amazing. Faith in humanity restored.”
