Comedian describes Welsh town as 's***hole where rats go to do drug deals'

A comedian has described a Welsh town as a "s***hole" after spending 10 weeks there. Thanyia Moore said Porthcawl was a "s***hole where rats go to do drug deals" in a stand-up Comedy Central Live show. The video has circulated since her set took place earlier this year.

The 39-year old comedian described her thoughts on the area after doing TV work in the coastal town near Bridgend. She said: "Normally when you say Wales, people instantly think of Cardiff. I wasn't lucky enough to be in Cardiff. I was in a quaint little seaside town called Porthcawl.

"Let's just say it: it's a s***hole. It is. It's where rats go and do drug deals, that's what Porthcawl is and I'm there for 10 weeks. I'm from south London, I shouldn't be in Porthcawl, it made no sense", she joked; "It was like taking a sheep and putting it in Notting Hill Carnival, no sense right? But I'm there for 10 weeks, so I thought I'm going to have a look around, check out my surroundings."

Thanyia was keen to find her happy place in Porthcawl. And it would seem that it was one of the town's top restaurants that managed to win over the big city-loving comedian.

She went on to explain: "I found this wonderful restaurant called Harbour Bar. Now, Harbour I'm going to say is middle class. Why do I say that? It's got windows for walls — that's all it takes."

But it would seem the restaurant, which is now called the Bar & Kitchen Co, managed to work some magic. Thanyia ended up trying a leek and potato soup in the restaurant as she joked that she was pretending to be middle-class when she went in there, and was so impressed by the dish that she wanted everyone in the restaurant to try it that day.

The video got some mixed reactions from those who'd seen it, with lots of people jumping to Porthcawl's defence. One person commented: "Porthcawl is a dream holiday destination in Wales."

Someone else added: "I practically live there, it's great though." Another person said: "I actually like Porthcawl and that restaurant is lush."

But not everyone disagreed with her. Another TikTok user commented: "I live literally five minutes away from Porthcawl. She's not wrong. Lol."
