Comedian David McSavage hits out at 'brat' who threw pint at him during gig

Comic David McSavage has described a heckler as a "brat" after she threw a pint over him during a comedy gig.

The Dublin comedian shared footage of a woman throwing a pint at him on stage, missing his head by inches.

The funnyman was on stage at the Top Secret Comedy Club in London when a heckler took umbrage with what he said.

McSavage told us he genuinely cannot remember what he said that offended the woman – but called her a "brat" for throwing a pint over him.

He said: "For whatever reason, the woman took umbrage with something I said and I really don’t know what it was but she was sort of.. my attention was taken away from this show because she was chatting to a friend about what she should do and I was looking at her going, ‘oh yeah you probably want to kill me after the gig’ and then she threw her pint at me.

"A little f***ing brat. But it could be a trend that Will Smith started. It’s really rude. It’s childish.

"The arrogance of someone who because they disapprove or don’t like something that is being said in the context of a gig and they are so self-centred. What about everyone else there who were clearly having a good time and also she wasn’t the brightest person either.

"Then another part of me thought ‘I’m kind of glad that I can provoke people’."

The woman was immediately escorted out of the venue by security staff. It apparently kicked off as the stand-up was responding to her interactions, sarcastically imitating her saying: ‘Let’s kill him after the gig’.

After the incident, McSavage left the stage saying: 'You know I can’t really top that. I think that was it. What a finale. Enjoy the rest of your night.'

McSavage said he isn’t taking the matter further and will not be reporting it to the police.

"A fan of mine approached her afterwards and asked if she was the girl who threw the pint over the comedian, and she said ‘yeah’ but in a proud way. Then my mate said, ‘well you could be put up for assault’. I think she was delighted with herself."

He said it wasn’t the first time a heckler has thrown something at him on stage.

"It happened from time to time when I was a younger comedian. One time a bottle was thrown at me when I was in Sydney, Australia. But I’m old school. I’m a street performer. I got into so many fights as a street performer. You take the p*** out of the wrong person and they would come up and attack you so if this is what it is – someone throwing beer at you – it is not the end of the world.

"At the time I was p***ed off," he said. But he said he won’t be removing the joke from his set – if he can remember what he said.

"I could see her fuming. She stood out. Everyone was laughing their heads off so there was something, but I don’t know what it was that I said.

"I have a few ideas of what it was that provoked her. There are the usual tropes that those young kids are obsessed with. But also, you meet these kids and they really want to make a show of how virtuous they are but meanwhile they don’t have the courage to go abroad somewhere to a really serious country where there is institutional sexism or racism and fight for a cause because they would sh*t themselves.

"Some of the comedians said ‘what did you say? Who gives a f*** what I said. You don’t throw a pint of beer because you don’t like something that somebody said.

"Asking what the joke was, you shouldn’t have that reaction to anything. If you don’t like it, or if you are so triggered or whatever those buzzwords are… you should actually not go to a gig. Stay at home," he added.
