Columbia University Campus Quiet After Protesters Cleared

People walk past Columbia University in New York

Columbia University experienced a stark contrast in atmosphere on Wednesday morning following the events of the previous night. The campus was notably quiet and still, a departure from the scenes of unrest when NYPD intervened to clear protesters from the premises.

During the early hours of the morning, around 12:40 a.m. ET, cleanup crews were spotted working to restore order on the main lawn. Tents that had been erected by protesters approximately two weeks prior were being dismantled.

Images captured on Wednesday morning revealed damage to the main doors of Hamilton Hall, with broken glass panes visible. The heavy metal patio furniture, including picnic tables that had been used to barricade the doors from the outside, as well as wooden chairs employed to block them from the inside, had been removed.

Access to the campus remains limited, with only essential service staff and students residing on campus permitted entry.
