Colts WR Coach Had Surprising Reaction to Frank Reich’s Firing

After Colts coach Frank Reich was fired in favor of former All-Pro lineman and ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday, Indianapolis wide receivers coach Reggie Wayne felt the need to apologize to his former boss.

“Man, I’m sorry…I wish I could’ve done better [for you],” Wayne texted Reich, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic.

Wayne told reporters on Thursday that if he knew all of this would happen this year, he would never have taken the job under Reich when it was offered last spring.

“[I would have told him] nah, I ain’t doing it,” Wayne said.

As for current direction of the franchise, the Colts made an unprecedented move and hired Saturday away from his TV job and straight into the interim coaching job. Saturday had been serving as an analyst for the Colts but was working full-time for ESPN.

Saturday made his coaching debut on Sunday and led the Colts to a 25–20 victory over the Raiders. At 4–5–1 on the season, Indianapolis remains alive and well in the AFC playoff picture, but it will need to continue the winning ways on Sunday against the NFC-leading Eagles.
