Colts vs Patriots: A change at right guard is made in Week 13

The Indianapolis Colts have made a change at right guard for their Week 13 matchup with the New England Patriots.

According to The Athletic’s James Boyd, as the Colts were going through warmups prior to Sunday’s game, it was Mark Glowinski at right guard and not Dalton Tucker.

Tucker had been starting there since Will Fries was placed on injured reserve but as of late, he has really struggled.

In the last three games, Tucker has taken his lumps, allowing 13 pressures and two sacks in just the last three games. Out of 72 eligible guards during that span, Tucker ranks 72nd in PFF’s pass-blocking efficiency metric and 60th in run-blocking grade.

Glowinski was signed to the Colts’ practice squad just under two weeks ago and was elevated for today’s game.

Glowinski is an experienced right guard, coming into this week’s game with 124 career appearances, which includes 59 games with the Colts from 2017-2021.

Glowinski hasn’t played under Shane Steichen previously, but did work with current Colts’ offensive line coach Tony Sparano Jr. during the 2022 season when both were with the Giants.

Glowinski’s most recent regular season action came last year with those Giants. He played 520 offensive snaps during the 2023 season, allowing six sacks and 17 pressures, although he graded out decently well as a run-blocker, according to PFF’s metrics.

If the Colts are going to find more consistency on offense, it starts with playing better up front. The run game has struggled to get going in recent weeks and Anthony Richardson was under steady pressure against Detroit.

Boyd also noted that with Bernhard Raimann playing, Matt Goncalves has slid over to right tackle with Braden Smith out.
