Chicago Bears’ wide receiver Keenan Allen has been ruled out of Sunday’s contest against the Indianapolis Colts, according to Adam Schefter.
Allen is out due to a heel injury that also kept him sidelined last week against the Houston Texans.
In the Bears’ opener against Tennessee, Allen had four receptions on eight targets for 29 yards. This is Allen’s first season in Chicago after spending the previous 11 years with the Los Angeles Chargers.
In six of the last seven seasons, Allen has eclipsed the 100 receptions mark and gone over 1,000 receiving yards in five of those seasons, along with hauling in 44 touchdowns over that seven-year span.
Through the first two games, the Bears passing game has struggled to get going with Caleb Williams averaging just 4.0 yards per attempt and the offense as a whole totaling fewer than 200 receiving yards in those games.
However, even without Allen in the mix, the Bears still have DJ Moore and Rome Odunze who can be matchup problems for a Colts’ secondary that still has it’s question marks.
This could be a game where we see the Colts continue to dial up the blitzes–just as the Titans and Texans did–in an effort to get after Williams.
On the ground, it’s a matchup between the Colts porous run defense and the Bears rushing attack that has failed to get going in two games.
