Colts to re-sign DE Tyquan Lewis to one-year deal

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to re-sign pending free agent defensive end Tyquan Lewis to a one-year deal worth $2.1 million, per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star.

As the legal tampering period arrives Monday at noon ET, the Colts got out in front of the market on Lewis, bringing him back on a similar deal to what he signed in 2022.

A second-round pick from the 2018 NFL draft, this will be the second time Lewis has signed a one-year contract to return to the Colts. After his rookie deal expired following the 2021 season, Lewis was re-signed to a similar deal worth around $3 million.

What’s somewhat eerie about Lewis’ career has been the significant knee injuries. In 2021, he suffered a torn patellar tendon during the Week 8 game against the Tennessee Titans. The Colts still re-signed him during the following offseason.

Almost to the exact date the following year during the 2022 season, Lewis suffered the same patellar tear but to the opposite knee in Week 8.

Lewis has proven to be a solid rotational pass rusher for the Colts and one who can work both on the edge and the interior. Hopefully, his knee injuries haven’t taken too much away from him, but he adds some nice depth to the defensive line.

In 48 career games (16 starts), Lewis has recorded 9.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss and 25 quarterback hits.
