Colts stockpile upside in Draft Wire’s 4-round mock

The Indianapolis Colts are still months away from the 2024 NFL draft, but the discussions of who they will select have been well underway.

Thankfully, our friends over at Draft Wire put together a four-round mock draft ahead of Super Bowl LVIII. In that mock, the Colts selected plenty of talent with upside on both sides of the ball.

From an exciting addition to the receiver room to some intriguing upside on defense, here’s how that mock draft went for the Colts:

Round 1 | No. 15 overall

Matthew Hinton-USA TODAY Sports

The Pick: WR Brian Thomas Jr., LSU

What Draft Wire said: “Brian Thomas is a perfect deep threat for the Colts and young quarterback Anthony Richardson.”

Thomas would be an intriguing addition to the wide receiver room as both a deep threat and YAC option over the middle on crossing routes. There’s still some development that needs to take place in the nuance of route running, but he has the tools worth betting on, especially as a young player who wouldn’t need to shoulder too much of the load right away.

Round 2 | No. 46 overall

The Pick: CB T.J. Tampa, Iowa State

Tampa seems like the type of cornerback Chris Ballard will look for. He has the size, length and physicality at the line of scrimmage to work well in press coverage. He also shows the ball skills and athleticism to play in zone coverage.

Round 3 | No. 82 overall

Ken Ruinard-USA TODAY Sports

The Pick: DL Ruke Orhorhoro, Clemson

Orhorhoro is still developing as an interior pass rusher, but it’s difficult to deny the upside his size and athleticism bring. He recorded 5.0 sacks and eight tackles for loss in 2023.

Round 5 | No. 117 overall

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

The Pick: OT Blake Fisher, Notre Dame

Fisher brings the size, length and physicality teams will want in an offensive tackle even though further development is needed when it comes to hand placement and recovery. He has two years of starting experience at right tackle and would be an intriguing Day 3 option.
