Colts sign QB/WR Jason Bean for 2025 season

The Indianapolis Colts are bringing back quarterback Jason Bean for the 2025 season, per his agent Brett Tessler.

Tessler announced the news on X and also had this to say about Bean:

“(He) Was one of the top QBs in last year’s preseason and with a year of development under his belt figures to play a much bigger role next season.”

Bean signed with the Colts as an undrafted rookie out of Kansas following last April’s draft. He would spend the offseason and training camp with the team and then the 2024 season on the practice squad.

As Tessler mentioned, Bean put together an impressive preseason showing, completing 15-of-19 passes at 10.4 yards per attempt, showcasing the ability to generate some big plays, with one passing touchdown and one interception. He also averaged 4.9 yards per rush on 11 carries and scored two additional touchdowns on the ground.

Bean has been listed on the Colts’ roster as a quarterback/wide receiver, bringing a very unique skill set to this team with his ability as a ball carrier and to catch passes–two things he was asked to do, in addition to playing quarterback, while at Kansas.

“Traits,” said assistant GM Ed Dodds about Bean during the offseason. “He’s long. He’s really fast. He’s faster than what his recorded 40 time is. The more things they can do. He’s going to do some different things for us too.”

With both Joe Flacco and Sam Ehlinger set to hit free agency, Bean could find himself competing for the backup quarterback role this summer.
