When meeting with reporters on Tuesday, Indianapolis Colts’ head coach Shane Steichen provided some brief injury updates on wide receiver Alec Pierce and cornerback Jaylon Jones.
At this time, Pierce still remains in concussion protocols but he is “advancing well,” according to Joel Erickson of the Indy Star.
Pierce would exit the Colts’ Week 15 matchup against Denver late in the first half after coming down hard while making a catch attempt in the end zone. He then entered concussion protocol that Monday.
Pierce did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday of last week but was a limited participant on Friday before being ruled out of Sunday’s game against Tennessee. Pierce won’t be eligible to return until he clears protocols.
Without Pierce, rookie AD Mitchell took on a much larger role, sliding into that X receiver role opposite of Michael Pittman.
Jones, meanwhile, would leave the Titans’ game in the fourth quarter with a throat injury and he did not return. Erickson would report that Jones got hit in the throat on a play, but added that the injury is “not serious,” and that Jones is “progressing well.”
Cornerback is not a position of depth for this Colts’ team. Without Jones down the stretch on Sunday, the Colts had to rely on David Long Jr. to fill in for him.
In addition to seeing how Pierce and Jones progress throughout the week, some other names to watch in practice include EJ Speed, who missed Sunday’s game, as well as JuJu Brents, who was designated to return from injured reserve last week.
