Colts sent high-level executive to scout Anthony Richardson

The Indianapolis Colts were represented by a high-level executive at Florida’s pro day to scout quarterback Anthony Richardson ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.

While area scout Mike Lacy was on hand to scout Kentucky’s Will Levis and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud and another area scout to Alabama’s Bryce Young, it was chief personnel executive Morocco Brown who was on hand to watch the electric Richardson.

This does have significance in the sense that Brown has strong influence in the draft room next to general manager Chris Ballard and assistant general manager Ed Dodds.

The Colts have area scouts for all corners of the country so they could have simply stayed the course and sent that level of scout to the pro day in Gainsville.

Instead, they elected to send one of their top executives and scouts in the front office to the pro day. Richardson also has a top-30 visit scheduled with the Colts.

There are essentially two schools of thought here. Either Richardson is climbing the draft board and the Colts feel he is going to be their selection or they aren’t as sure about his projection so they sent a higher executive to get a closer look.

Richardson is certainly a polarizing prospect considering his lack of experience and sometimes erratic accuracy, but he has the tools to be an elite quarterback if developed properly.

With less than a month until they’re on the clock in the first round of the draft, we may be getting a signal that the Colts are narrowing down their big board at the game’s most important position.
