The Indianapolis Colts re-signed cornerback Marvell Tell III, the team announced Monday.
Tell spent the season on the practice squad after failing to make the active roster during training camp and the preseason. The former fifth-round pick was then placed on the practice squad injured reserve list in October, where he remained for the rest of the season.
Tell was a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft by the Colts and while he showed slivers of promise during the final month of his rookie season, he opted out of the 2020 campaign due to COVID-19 concerns.
Tell came back for the 2021 season competing for one of the final spots in the cornerback room but was waived during roster cuts in September.
Considering new defensive coordinator Gus Bradley has a penchant for using cornerbacks with Tell’s traits, this may be a second chance for the former USC Trojan.
The Colts have a solid trio of cornerbacks in Kenny Moore II, Rock Ya-Sin and Isaiah Rodgers while T.J. Carrie and Xavier Rhodes are set to hit free agency.
