As it currently stands, the Indianapolis Colts are staring at a slate of selections in the 2022 NFL draft that ranks among the worst in the league.
According to Tankathon, who referenced the Jimmy Johnson model for draft-pick value, the Colts are ranked third-worst in the NFL. Their pick value of 721.4 is better than only the San Francisco 49ers (506.4) and the Los Angeles Rams (169.9).
It’s unlikely the Colts will be getting back into the first round after losing that initial pick to the Philadelphia Eagles due to the conditions of the Carson Wentz trade.
That means the Colts won’t be on the board until the No. 47 overall pick in the draft, which is the latest “first pick” since 2014 (No. 59 overall).
The Colts are expected to receive a pair of compensatory picks on Day 3, but that won’t help their value a whole lot. Depending on what they get in a potential trade involving the aforementioned Wentz, the Colts could be at the bottom of the league in pick value when the end of April rolls around.
Fortunately, this year’s class appears to be one without consensus picks. That could work into the Colts’ favor if other teams are unsure of their big boards.
Regardless, the Colts won’t have much in terms of high-valued draft picks unless a big trade goes down.
