Colts’ Quenton Nelson unable to participate in Pro Bowl

Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson will not participate in the 2023 Pro Bowl games due to an undisclosed injury and will be replaced by Buffalo Bills guard Roger Saffold.

It isn’t clear what type of injury Nelson is dealing with. He’s played through some ailments throughout the season and has a history of a back issue, but that’s mere speculation at this point.

Nelson was the only Colts player voted to the Pro Bowl games as a starter during the 2022 season while five others were named alternates. This comes just one year after leading the NFL with seven starters in the Pro Bowl in 2021.

Even though he was voted to the Pro Bowl, Nelson didn’t enjoy his dominant form of play in 2022. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed five sacks, six quarterback hits and 31 total pressures, all of which are career-worst marks.

The entire play of the offensive line held the team back, and it was a major reason why the Colts failed to meet expectations.

Hopefully, this offseason will allow Nelson to get healthy and play at the elite level we’ve seen because this offense desperately needs him to do so.
