Colts QB Anthony Richardson misses Thursday’s Week 18 practice

The Indianapolis Colts were back on the practice field on Thursday after holding a walkthrough on Wednesday, but quarterback Anthony Richardson was still a non-participant, according to The Athletic’s James Boyd.

Including the two walkthroughs on each of the last two Wednesdays, Richardson has now missed the last five Colts’ practices.

Richardson has been working through back spasms the last week-plus. While originally, head coach Shane Steichen said that Richardson was dealing with soreness, the injury was much more severe than that as Richardson detailed recently:

“Last week was tough,” said Richardson. “I couldn’t even stand up on Tuesday, I could barely even walk, was crawling around the house, but I’m standing now. If I can do everything in my power to get on the field, I’m going to do so. That was my plan last week, as well, but I could barely move.”

Richardson would add that he’s feeling better this week. For more on what Richardson had to say about his injury, click here.

Steichen would say that he was “hopeful” that Richardson could return for the team’s season finale this Sunday against Jacksonville, but he would have to see how he progressed throughout the week.

Whether or not Richardson is able to practice Friday will be telling when it comes to his potential availability in Week 18.

Although the Colts do not have anything left to play for at this point, for a young and still relatively inexperienced quarterback, any live reps for Richardson can be quite valuable.
