The Indianapolis Colts (9-7) came through with a big 23-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders (7-9) on Sunday, and much of it was due to the effort of running back Jonathan Taylor.
Behind a strong performance from the offensive line, Taylor took 21 carries for 96 rushing yards and a touchdown, a score that set the tone on the opening drive of the game. Taylor also added one catch for eight yards on his only target.
Taylor has now scored a touchdown in each of his last five games played.
With the playoffs on the line in Week 18, the Colts will need Taylor to continue this solid play. His success on the ground helps take some of the pressure off Gardner Minshew, who works better when he doesn’t have to take the entire offense on his shoulders.
Taylor will be a vital key for the Colts if they want to earn a playoff spot with a win over the Houston Texans in Week 18, and getting him going could be huge for Indy if they want to make a run throughout the month of January.
