The Indianapolis Colts placed QB Anthony Richardson on the injured reserve list, the team announced Wednesday.
After suffering an AC joint sprain, reportedly a Grade 3, the Colts will be without their starting rookie quarterback for at least four weeks. However, they reportedly are bracing for him to potentially miss up to eight weeks, depending on the rehab progress.
There’s also a chance Richardson needs surgery to repair the injury, but head coach Shane Steichen said Wednesday the team hasn’t made a decision on that.
Colts’ QB Anthony Richardson is now expected to miss four to eight weeks, depending on his rehab and whether or not he still would need surgery on his right shoulder, per source. By placing him on IR today, the Colts are giving him time so nothing can, or has to be, rushed.

Richardson’s absence is a big blow to his development after showing a lot of promise through the first month of the season. It’s been a tough road between the concussion that forced him to miss 1.5 games and now an injury to his throwing shoulder that could have him out for two months.
With Richardson on the mend, the Colts will turn to Gardner Minshew as the starter and Sam Ehlinger as the backup. They also signed Kellen Mond to the practice squad.
Taking Richardson’s spot on the 53-man roster is guard Ike Boettger, who was signed from the practice squad.
