To no surprise at all, the Indianapolis Colts did not use the franchise tag or any variation of the tender on any of their pending free agents for the 2023 offseason.
The Colts were not expected to use the franchise tag this offseason, and only six players across the entire league were slapped with the fully guaranteed tender.
Indy has not used the franchise tag since 2013 when they applied it to punter Pat McAfee.
The Colts didn’t have any pending free agents worthy of getting the tag. Even though linebacker Bobby Okereke is expected to have a strong market, the value of a linebacker’s franchise tag is $20.93 million.
Meanwhile, the value of the franchise tag for defensive ends in 2023 is $19.73 million, which means Yannick Ngakoue is off the board.
The Colts still have some moves to make ahead of the start of free agency in a week, but they once again go without using the franchise tag in an offseason.
