Colts not projected to get any 2025 compensatory draft picks

The Indianapolis Colts are not projected to get any 2025 compensatory draft picks, according to Over the Cap.

So, what is a compensatory draft pick and what does it have to do with the NFL draft?

Every draft, the NFL awards at least 32 additional picks for certain players who go from one team to another via free agency. In short, if a team loses more compensatory free agents than they sign, they will get a draft pick in return for the difference.

Not every free agent is a compensatory free agent; there is a formula that takes into account the playing time of that free agent, their salary, and any postseason honors they received. Essentially, the better the player, the better the draft pick that the team receives for losing them.

For the Colts, they did lose two compensatory free agents with Gardner Minshew going to Las Vegas and Zack Moss signing with Cincinnati. However, by signing Raekwon Davis and Joe Flacco–two compensatory free agents–that cancelled out losing Minshew and Moss.

So the end result is no additional draft picks in 2025.

The Colts will enter the 2025 NFL draft with seven selections in total, which includes one pick in each round, beginning with the 14th overall pick.
