The Indianapolis Colts suffered their second consecutive loss, this time to the Minnesota Vikings. But what else happened in the AFC South in Week 8? Let’s take a look.
The Houston Texans traveled to New York to face the Jets on Thursday night football. Houston took a 10-7 lead into halftime, but was outscored 14-6 in the final two quarters, which included Aaron Rodgers connecting with Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams for a pair of scores.
The Texans’ offense struggled to get going through the air, with CJ Stroud going just 11-for-30 for 191 yards. Joe Mixon found some success on the ground, again eclipsing the 100-yard mark, but in today’s NFL, relying solely on the run game to move the ball is a tough way to live.
Jacksonville would face Philadelphia on the road and came up just short, losing 23-28. Trailing by five points late, the Jaguars found themselves at the Eagles’ 13 yard line, but were unable to take the lead following an intercepted pass off the hands of Trevor Lawrence.
Struggles on fourth downs, a missed field goal, and failed two point conversion opportunities on the Eagles’ part helped keep the Jaguars in this game.
Lawrence was 16-of-31 passing for 169 yards with two touchdowns. The Eagles’ Saquon Barkley rushed for 159 yards while Jalen Hurts threw for 230 with two scores.
Lastly, the Titans were the only team in the AFC South to win this week, defeating New England 20-17 in overtime. Starting with the ball, Mason Rudolph led a 13 play, 72 yard drive that ended with Nick Folk making a field goal with 2:32 remaining.
New England then had a chance to either tie or win the game, but Drake Maye would throw an interception on the third play of that drive to end the game.
Rudolph was 20-for-33 passing for 240 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Tony Pollard rushed for 128 yards and Calvin Ridley had 73 receiving yards. Tennessee forced three takeaways in this game.
Nine weeks into the season, Houston sits at the top of the division at 6-3. The Colts are next at 4-5, followed by the 2-6 Titans and then the 2-7 Jaguars.
Next week, The Colts are at home to take on Buffalo. The Titans will face the LA Chargers on the road, Houston will play at Detroit, and the Jaguars are home for a matchup with the Vikings.
