Colts’ Jonathan Taylor could play vs. Titans in Week 5

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is expected to return to practice this week following his stint on the PUP list, and there’s a chance he will suit up in the Week 5 game against the Tennessee Titans.

Taylor hasn’t seen game action since the Week 15 game against the Minnesota Vikings when he re-injured his ankle injury. That ankle injury required offseason surgery—arthroscopic debridement—and he hasn’t been on the field since.

Between the ankle injury and a contract dispute, Taylor was placed on the PUP list at the start of the regular season. Whether he plays against the Titans remains to be seen, but head coach Shane Steichen isn’t ruling the star running back out yet.

“We’ll see. Like I said, we’ll see how practice goes. The conversations I’ve had with him have been great through this whole deal. I’ll keep those private, but he’s in a good spot,” Steichen said Monday. “Obviously, I had a conversation with him the other day, talked to him today, but he’s excited to get back with his teammates.”

Considering this is the first time Taylor has practiced since Steichen was hired as the head coach, odds suggest he likely won’t be suiting up against the Titans this week.

The Colts have 21 days to activate Taylor from the PUP list to the 53-man roster, but considering the slight chance he plays in Week 5, it doesn’t appear that will be an issue.

What happens when Taylor comes back to the fold remains to be seen, but this is the next step in the saga.
