Colts’ injury news: QB Anthony Richardson provides update after game

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson exited Sunday’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first half but told the NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe that he will be good.

Richardson left after sustaining a hip injury. Wolfe added that Richardson told head coach Shane Steichen that he could have returned but couldn’t “push off” or “accelerate” like he wanted to.

Before Richardson left Sunday’s game, he was off to a very fast start, completing three of his first four passes for 71 yards, including a 28-yard and a 32-yard completions to Michael Pittman.

That big play ability coupled with the one-two punch of Richardson and Taylor in the run game had the Colts’ offense rolling, with a touchdown drive to start the game, and then another that Joe Flacco finished off after Richardson left with the injury.

Without Richardson, we saw the added difficulty that can come for Taylor in the run game with the Steelers defending him much more aggressively. However, before Taylor exited with an ankle injury, he was able to average 4.2 yards per rush on 21 attempts.

Taking over for Richardson was Flacco, who was fairly efficient, helping the Colts’ offense sustain drives and he took care of the football. The Flacco-led offense also came up with two big score drives later in the game to respond when Pittsburgh the cut the deficit to just one score.

The next time the Colts will be on the practice field is Wednesday, at which point we will see if Richardson has any restrictions. However, there doesn’t seem to be any long-term concern.
