The Indianapolis Colts rank among the top half of the NFL in salary cap rollover from the 2024 season to the 2025 offseason.
Each season, any unused cap space isn’t just forgotten about, but instead, it rolls over to the upcoming offseason, adding to what teams already have available.
Recently, each NFL team officially submitted those amounts to the NFL, and Over the Cap got their hands on those figures.
The Colts will be rolling over–and this figure can still be adjusted–$10.09 million of unused cap dollars from the 2024 season.
Compared to the rest of the NFL, this ranks as the 12th-most. The San Francisco 49ers with $50.09 million being rolled over is at the top of this list, thanks to a number of contract restructures this past season.
Without that rollover figure baked in quite yet, Over the Cap is projecting that the Colts will have $32.91 million in available cap space this offseason, and that ranks right around the middle of the pack.
So if we add the Colts projected rollover amount to their current estimated total, they will have roughly $43 million in cap space to spend this upcoming season. And, as always, there are other cap-saving maneuvers that can be made to create additional room.
When speaking with reporters on Friday, GM Chris Ballard called his roster construction approach in 2024 a “mistake,” specifically noting that the lack of competition on the roster was problematic to the growth an development of this team.
This implies that a different approach will be taken in free agency this offseason. However, Ballard was non-committal to what that might look like, and ultimately, only time will tell if things are actually going to change.
As far as team needs go for the Colts, linebacker, tight end, cornerback, and safety are all positions that have to be addressed. Ballard also mentioned adding competition at quarterback and bolstering the offensive line depth. I also believe that adding to the running back and interior defensive line rooms should happen in some capacity as well.
With that said, free agency isn’t only about making outside additions, Ballard and the Colts have decisions to make about a number of their own pending free agents as well.
